Stone Buddha Head — The Half-Closed Eyes

A Buddha head carved in stone. Tight spiral curls rising to the crown, eyes half-closed and lowered, full cheeks and ears that seem to reach for the shoulders — the auspicious features of a Buddha’s face, all quietly in place.
Stains and wear from long years sit on the surface like the grain of the stone itself. Polished passages and rough ones alternate, so that seen straight on the face is solemn, and seen from an angle, somehow tender.
A Buddha head has a way of quieting whatever space it enters. On a bookshelf, a console, a windowsill — wherever it sits becomes the stillest corner of the room. A single stick of incense beside it completes the picture.

On a noisy day, spend a moment with these half-closed eyes. The mind settles, just about to the angle of the eyelids.
